Have I ever done a DA contest before? I think this is my first...
Also, my first beastie thing, i think...

I tried my best on this. I started rather late, so I think I could do better. I may work on this more tonight, but right now, I'm alright with it. Not totally happy, but I gotta stop.

Hope you like.

Enjoy~

I really like this actually, the shapes all lead into one another in soft attractive ways and no one color dominates too much. Again though we run into some dynamic issues with conflicting saturation spots.... the brightest spots of the image get spread out and not pushed on just the focal point. Make sure you put strongest contrasts in deliberate spots for us to stop and focus on, and then areas of rest where we move the eye around would likely have values that are closer to each other on the ol value scale.

damn... I wish I knew this earlier. This is some solid advice.
I was struggling very hard with this. Im not used to painting creatures of any kind. And i was smart enough to use almost no ref, when a little research could have gone a long way. My goal for this was to get in the top 25, just by being different, but I dont think thats possible anymore, haha. Ah well.
Yeah...if I concentrated all my more saturated areas on my creature, or even just an area, like the face or something, then this piece would have been much more sound, and felt more complete. I got ahead of myself. Im trying my best to control what I do, but theres always more to learn.

Thanks so much for taking time out like this to offer your advice! I am extremely grateful!!

If it's any consolation, I mistakenly started a piece with no reference some time back and just got it smashed to bits in a critique. Happens to the best of us ;).

We're never done learning, keep at it :D.
